New Year’s Resolution: More Eggrolls!

It is 2012, and we are hitting the streets with a truck full of eggrolls and smiles. Happy New Year! We have recently introduced the Big MOE, which is here in honor of the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year celebrations being on January 23rd and last for 14 days. This year will be a lucky year, the year of the Dragon! The Big MOE is large, about half a pound, with our Char Siu style brisket, mango-mint slaw, and a special sauce. Think Chinese BBQ and Jewish deli sandwich flavors…true Jewnese cuisine at its finest.

The BIG MOE

Char Siu Brisket, Mango-Mint Slaw, Chinese Aioli

Stay tuned for more information about where and what we will be doing to celebrate the Chinese New Year in LA at the end of the month.

Happy Holidays

With the holidays in full swing, the MOE team has been busy creating eggrolls to celebrate! We have already seen the Thanksgiving eggroll come and go. I could not get enough of it! It was a full thanksgiving meal in just one bite.

Thanksgiving Eggroll

kosher turkey, kabocha squash, caramelized shallots, honey and sage

paired with: Cranberry-Orange dipping sauce

Now, we have the Latke Eggroll on the menu until the end of the month. With eight nights of latkes, these are a fun way to spice up your usual Chanukah dinners! The taste and texture of the latke eggroll will bring you back to dinner at Bubby’s. The eggroll is filled with potato “noodles” that are created by using a Japanese vegetable slicer. The end result is a crispy fried eggroll with delightfully delicate wisps of potato coming out the ends.

Latke Eggroll

russet potato, scallion, red onion

paired with: Five-spice scented Applesauce

Contact us to find out about grabbing a party platter to-go. Besides catered events with the truck, you can have us at your party by ordering a custom platter for any number of people. Happy Holidays!

Jewish County Fair

Chag Sameah! It is that time of year, where we get to gather together with our families and communities to celebrate a new year and much more. M.O.E. is excited for our next big event. This Sunday, October 16th, we will be feeding our hungry friends and family all day at the Jewish County Fair. YES, we have a fair. It will be on 220 beautiful wooded acres of the Shalom Institute in Malibu. Michael went to camp in this very spot every summer from age 9-13, so it is very special for him to be back “at camp” this weekend. Please join us at the fair this Sunday from 10Am-7PM. There is music, dancing, rides and games….and of course plenty of eggrolls! http://www.bigjewishtent.com/

Quebec in Hollywood, AK Fest, and MOE

Our frist two weeks have opened with a bang. Let me break it down for y’all. Our first EVER service was on Tuesday September 20, 2011 at the Forever 21 offices. Not only was everyone ready to feast on some MOE, but they looked great doing it. Plenty of next season’s trends were noshing at our truck. Thank you to everyone at F21 for making our first day so special! Special thanks to Elaine, our graphic designer for inviting us to join her there for lunch. This washer first time to see her work (our beautiful truck wrap) in person.

Next, we wined and dined with our Canadian family and friends at “Quebec in Hollywood” on Thursday 9-22. This event was at the Piano Bar in Hollywood, with live music from two Montreal bands. For two weeks, Canadians met up all over Hollywood for fun events such as this, as well as fashion shows, movies, comedy. Quebec was well represented, and much more friendly for those 2 weeks ;) . Canadians are always so nice!Hollywood will miss you all. We look forward to doing it again next year.

For our first Friday on the streets, we rolled to La Cienega and Olympic near Temple Beth Am. Our TBA family came with such warm wishes, and filled their bellies with eggrolls galore. Another big day was our first Sunday, an all day event. We had the pleasure of joining the food trucks at the annual Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice. They had 150,000 hungry people to feed…and we did our part. We sold out of everything before the night ended, and met tons of LA fressers who we hope will become regulars. The AK fest is great for everyone. They had a beer garden, food trucks, shopping, and even a kids’ pavillion for the families. We got approval from some cute kids that day…including our own nephew and nieces who were literally dancing around with eggrolls in their hands and smiles on their faces. Unfortunately, I was too busy serving up some hot eggrolls to document this properly. Please try to create your own mental picture of this moment of uber cuteness.

I am not forgetting all the other daily spots, thank you for the MOE loving. Shout outs to 44 Blue Productions, Billy, Dave, L.A.C.E., and the 10 freeway for remaining traffic free (usually).

MOE’s Birthday

OH, the changes that can happen from one Shabbat to the next! Friday September 9 we were still planning for the big day, with so many final details to put together. Fast forward to the next Friday September 16, 2011, and our eggroll delicatessen was born. Fear, excitement, joy, hope, pride, anxiety… it was emotional overload.

We drove downtown to LA Cater Truck where we were given a brief list of how NOT to blow up the truck. Then, Michael took the keys and we set out for the commissary. I followed behind, watching Michael’s face glowing with excitement as he navigated the 22 foot truck like a pro. As we stopped at lights, we could see pedestrians pointing and driver’s craning their necks to see big blue MOE. We were already filling the streets with excitement.

Once we arrived at our commissary, Road Stoves, we met our nice security guard (nice to us, not nice to criminals). He showed us to our parking spot. Parking for the first time was way too much fun for Michael, but not for me on the sidelines. We became acquainted with some other tools of the trade-our water hoses, outlets, propane tanks etc. Then we made a 10 page To-Do list for Sunday. We tackled this long list, and spent true quality time with our new baby, MOE. Mom and Dad came on a field trip to the commissary to see the truck for the first time, as well. We toasted the beginning of this wonderful adventure. Thank you Mom and Dad and the rest of our amazing family for the support you give us.

Happy Birthday to MOE, our first food truck, our first exhausting and wonderful baby.  They might be 20 hour days, but they are 20 hour days together. Cheers to our future, changing the world one eggroll at a time!
